For the Sporty Amateurs
Whether this is your first time experiencing Riverrock or your 20th, anyone can get in on the action. If there’s any outdoor sport you’ve been dying to try but are too nervous to do on your own, there are beginner lessons that let you test the waters, no experience required.
You can try:
- Bouldering
- Kayaking
- Slackline
- Stand-up paddleboard
- Yoga
- And more!
For the Athletic Experts
Riverrock attracts professionals of all types of outdoor sports with challenging competitions that encourage them to prove their skills. These masterful athletes compete against one another in tiered tournaments that find the best of the best. These events are not for the weak-hearted – only pros in the sport are recommended to register. Competitions include:
- Mountain Bike Time Trial
- Mountain Bike Enduro
- Monsters of James Fishing Tournament
- James River Scramble (10k)
- Kayak Boatercross
- SUP Cross
- Boulder Bash
- Speed Comp

- And more!
Just a Spectator?
As thrilling as these competitions are, some outdoor sports are better left to the professionals. It’s better to stand on the sidelines and cheer than take on a sport you barely know for the clout.
That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy them though!
All of these events are open to spectators who want to watch ranked athletes compete and show off their crazy-impossible skills. See how the professionals do it and get inspired to try it for yourself, with the beginners classes of course. Or just watch for the love of the sport – whatever floats your boat.
For Those Just Looking to Have a Good Time
Are the outdoors not really your thing? Riverrock has plenty of entertainment for those who like to avoid physical activity if they can help it. From live music to effortless yet engaging pop-up events, you can enjoy just about everything.
As a premier music festival, Riverrock takes summer concerts to the next level with tons of local and well-known bands. You can relax on Brown Island’s field with your friends and listen to a range of genres all day long. The lineup includes:
- Kitchen Dwellers
- Pharaoh Sistare
- Fight Club
- Sierra Hull
- Justin Golden
- 49 Winchester
- And many more!
Got an eye for nature? Or a furry friend with lots of talent? Riverrock has separate competitions for the non-sporty outdoor enthusiasts including photo and video contests for budding and professional photographers. The Ultimate Air Dogs competition is for all fidos who are ready to take the leap.

For more go-with-the-flow people that are just looking to have some fun, there are various different pop-up events happening all weekend long.
